Chronic absenteeism is a pervasive challenge plaguing districts across Texas and throughout the U.S. It spans all demographics, and the reasons behind declining attendance are as diverse as the students we serve— from anxiety and mental health concerns to transportation constraints and family trauma.
Although there are no quick fixes to solving such a complex issue, Alief ISD has developed a framework for understanding the estimated financial cost to their district, and through the power of actionable data, they have been able to gain insights into stopping absences from evolving into academic setbacks.
